My life became overscheduled for a spell, but I'm back for real this time. Highlights since my last post include cobbling together a playlist for 80 Minutes for Life (it will be posted tomorrow), going to the Treasure Island Festival and silently swooning over the french horn tattoo on Zach Condon's wrist, writing a couple interviews, cracking the other side of my poor liz-hating iphone, and finally figuring out my halloween costume! I've also been listening to Doveman's new album, The Conformist, too. The wonderful boys over at Knox Road reminded me of this release, and they nailed Doveman's hushed, sadly beautiful pop aesthetic as "downright divine."
I ♥ the first song, "Breathing Out," and the second single from the album, "Angel's Share" is gorgeous too. Thomas Bartlett is backed by The National's Matt Berninger & Aaron Dessner on this track, and additional guest appearances enhance The Conformist as well. Doveman is on tour, and I am flirting with the Oakland date below. Turns out he's opening for The Swell Season—Oh My! I actually saw Thomas play with The National back in May, but I didn't realize it until after the show. (He toured with them as their keyboardist for several performances). The Swell Season's Glen Hansard appears on The Conformist as well, and I bet there will be a surprise duet or two during the tour!

hmmmm...I wonder how many Prince Charmings will come out of the woodwork in response to a Lizzle Snow White.

Blair, SNOW WHITE. I am not much of a disney person either. I think it is a reaction to all of the slutty halloween costumes that frightened me at the store.
I love the Doveman album. And I like it when The National men contribute to things ....

Ariel sent me to your blog when she emailed you my track -- I'd never heard of Doveman before and suddenly I was so drawn-in -- then I just kept listening -- I think I'll keep on listening here -- Thanks!

Liz, you will be great and very classy as Snow White (in stark contrast to aforementioned standard-issue slutty costumes).

The Doveman album is great, Dudley. Now I need to go check out your stuff! I like Ariel, but she sends A LOT of emails!
And Ryan, I am happy you approve. My non-slutty halloween attire has been met with a bunch of "WHYS??!!" Apparently, Halloween is the one time you can get away with looking like a prostitute, and I am missing out!
