So today I decided to listen to Mates of State's Re-Arrange Us over my lunch break. There's a fenced-in hiking area near my office, and you can often find me ear-budded, huffing & puffing along its hills. Usually, I listen to upbeat fare on my hike, and Mates of State gets heavy rotation. I'm especially infatuated with the song "Jigsaw." Every time I listen to it (today included), a music video repeats in my mind.
Basically, it starts with me standing pigeon-toed & exasperated in a candy-colored kitchen. (like this!) I'm wearing an adorable, lace-trimmed apron and I'm covered in flour, trying to bake a chocolate cake. As I finish the first lyric, a batter-coated wooden spoon in my hand, the camera swings to the left and a throng of men repeat in unison, "You Write the Good Songs, Baby!"
I sigh with relief as I recognize their faces, grinning as we sing back and forth. Roger, Babji, and Sean start flicking yellow sprinkles at me, their eyes mischievous and bright. As Jason unstacks ceramic mixing bowls, Eric grabs my arms & starts dancing, twirling me in circles as we continue singing. Bemused and wide-eyed—Ben shakes his head. And as Geoff juggles cans of pink frosting, John tries to sing louder than the rest.
When the "You Could See Us Thoughs" commence, we flood into the leafy backyard. Still singing back and forth, more friends are waiting. We all start throwing handfuls of powdered food color at each other, chasing running legs in a gorgeous rainbow haze. I am debilitated by laughter. We're exhausted.
It's fantastic.
Yep, I just might be a cartoon in my other life! Or a muppet. Have a great weekend everyone. xo.

Your work sounds very much like a happy castle. Who else can say that they have a fenced-in hiking area nearby?

Mirror, mirror on the wall. Who makes the prettiest publication of them all? (Yes, I most definitely work in a happy castle.)
LOVE that video.
