I recently found out that I need surgery. It's my first surgery ever—which I guess makes me pretty lucky since I've led a very wobbly-footed life. It's a minor procedure and I'm not going to die—I'm just going to deal with many tiny, cute criss-crossed stitches; no staples. And it probably doesn't deserve a seventeen song playlist, but as I was leaving the doctor's office I frowned at my iphone and thought:
"WHERE IS MY SURGERY SOUNDTRACK??!!"
I know, I know, too communicative. But it's how my mind works.
Liz is having surgery—the official playlist!

I am the same way. I made a playlist for my lasik surgery a few months ago - featuring rogue waves' In Your Eyes, Snow Patrols Open Your Eyes, among others...
That Sufjan S. song is amazing, and I'm enjoying that Brunettes pick too. I think I saw them when the opened for Beirut a long time ago. Anyhow, thanks!!!

Liz...I was going to make a mix tape for you...but you have seemingly put EVERY hospital themed song into your own playlist...you are SO self absorbed ;-)
17 songs...epic! I can't wait for the impending box set when you get married? OMG...have you already bought the external hard drives that it is going to take to store THAT playlist on?
Good luck...I have never had surgery either, or stayed the night in the hospital...so i can imagine your anxiety.

PS
The Miracle Fortress song is a keeper

Thanks, Lindsey! I saw The Brunettes open for Beirut several months ago and thought they did a nice job. "Holding Hands, Feeding Ducks" is how I'd like all of this to end.
Thanks for the well wishes, mister Blair. My unabridged playlist hovers around 30 songs. Edits include Metric's "Monster Hospital," Camera Obscura's "Keep it Clean," PJ Harvey's "Under Ether," Nico's "Afraid," Malcolm Middleton's "Wake Up"... ah, it goes on! My mom has already inquired if I plan on asking my surgeon to play these songs as I fade out.
It's a little difficult to imagine ever getting married, but if it does happen - I think I will be more preoccupied with the reception's playlist than anything else. :) The wedding invitation would inevitably be in the form of a mixtape. Yep, my priorities are pretty obvious here.
Ah I ♥ Miracle Fortress. That entire album is lovely lovely lovely.

Marriage is for quitters :-)
Also...i don't know about you, but ALL of my best blog material would be usurped if I were to ever take the marriage plunge...and I have a hardcore readership of 7 that just won't stand for that!
Posted by: blair | March 18, 2009 at 04:40 PM
Upon reflection, I doubt marriage could ever quell my general chattery. My imaginary-husband-of-the-future just couldn't object to being "blogged about". That would be a deal-breaker.
And whatever, Mr. 7-hardcore readership! You've forgotten already, but I've seen your stats.

Cautionary Song is an interesting choice. But you forgot one perfect song!

I love the piano. Bring your buckets by the dozens.
BTW I figured out where we were Sunday. Follow the link....

Dear Windy River (Stands with a Fist? Dances with Wolves?),
Only you and I would manage to get lost and go hiking to a retirement community. That hike totally didn't count. We will have to conquer it properly next time.
A perfect song, yes, but I am not wild about The Cold War kids! You should play that the next time you drive me around, eating pistachios. Just a thought.
And to answer your other question from last night:
Yes, there is a documentary on typeface and it is my new favorite documentary of all time! Come over, drink Laphroaig with me and I will expand upon the polarizing effects of Helvetica and this varietal of Scotch. I will even buy you soda because I am thoughtful like that.
And of course, there will be cheese.
Love,
the brat.

Funny, I was going to suggest both Hospital Beds and Monster Hospital. But all of you people are way ahead of me.
+ I got the impression you wouldn't like CWK anyway.
Posted by: Brendan | March 19, 2009 at 10:26 AM
I think I would like CWK if they replaced the lead singer. He just gets to me. I need the karaoke version of CWK and then I could really grow to love 'em...
Posted by: me | March 19, 2009 at 11:31 AM
Yes, I figured it wouldn't count. No check mark in the book.
mmmmmm. pistachios. CWK is awesoome! I love it, singer's voice and all. Expanding horizons! Not everyone needs to sound like Morrissey =)
I will def take you up on that offer. But I don't think I can drink Laphroaig with soda. That's breaking some kind of ancient code. Maybe with a couple ice cubes...
(And cheese)

O my god, Jens Lekman does NOT sound like Morrissey! Take it back.
And when are you going to sign theblisslist.com over to me? Once you do it, Laphroaig will be your reward!
Posted by: me | March 19, 2009 at 07:07 PM
Sorry sweetie. theblisslist.com is owned by these people: http://www.victoriamag.com/
I did however set up the domain I do have for you. Chek ur email. Now, Laphroaig!!
PS It was the New York Dolls.

Thanks, Simon. The surgery is tomorrow (eeeee), but it's minor and should be fine. I just checked out your blog and I'm very impressed! You're in my reader now. Thanks for commenting!
